JOHN E. FITZGERALD III

 

 

Jack FitzGerald is a partner of FitzGerald & Mulé LLP.  He is an "AV" (highest) rated attorney by  Martindale-Hubbell and has been selected annually for the Register of Pre-Eminent Attorneys. Mr. FitzGerald has received the “Distinguished Citizen of the Year” Award in Palm Springs and is past President of the Board of Trustees of the Desert Bar Association.

 

Mr. FitzGerald has been a practicing attorney since 1975 and has been admitted to the bars of California, Pennsylvania, New York and the United States Supreme Court, as well as numerous federal district and appellate courts. For 25 years, Mr. FitzGerald has been lead counsel in many of the Coachella Valley’s major employment cases.

 

Mr. FitzGerald was born in 1945 in Cambridge, and grew up in Northampton, Massachusetts.  He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and served as a Captain in the United States Army, primarily as trial counsel in cases for the Staff Judge Advocate.  Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge, Mr. FitzGerald participated in a joint program at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and the Wharton Graduate School, where he was awarded both Law and Masters degrees.

 

Mr. FitzGerald is active in his community and served seven consecutive terms  as  President of the Board of Directors of the United Way of the Desert.  He also served for nine years on the Board of Trustees of the Palm Springs Art Museum, and is a Life Board member and former President of the Palm Springs Boys and Girls Club.

 

In 1998, Mr. FitzGerald was honored in Palm Springs with the "Friend of Youth" Award.  In 1999, he was awarded the “Distinguished Eagle” Award, and in 2002 was presented the "Silver Beaver" Award recognizing his service to The Boy Scouts of America. In 2004, Mr. FitzGerald was recognized with the “Jefferson Bronze Award” for his volunteer contributions throughout the Coachella Valley.

 

DAVID B. MULÉ

 

 

David B. Mulé is a partner of FitzGerald & Mulé LLP.  Mr. Mulé received his undergraduate degree in 1989 from the University of San Diego, graduating with honors and with double majors in English and Philosophy.  He then graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 1993 receiving his Juris Doctor degree.  Mr. Mulé is a member of the State Bar of California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Courts for the Central and Southern Districts of California.

 

Mr. Mulé’s practice has been almost exclusively dedicated to labor and employment law since commencing his career as an attorney.  He represents both employers and employees in all aspects of the field, such as wrongful termination litigation, discrimination, sexual harassment, wage and hour issues, NLRB matters and contract negotiations and disputes.  He also assists employers in developing policies such as employee manuals and guidelines to help them comply with the numerous labor and employment laws that affect their businesses.  Mr. Mulé spends a significant amount of his time advising employers on how to comply with the law and manage their businesses with the goal of avoiding litigation.

 

In addition to his practice, Mr. Mulé enjoys lecturing on the topic of labor and employment law.  He has provided instruction in the field as a University of  California Riverside adjunct lecturer and has also been a presenter at the California Bar Association’s Continuing Education of the Bar program for attorneys on employment law topics.  Mr. Mulé also frequently speaks before local civic and employer groups on the topic of labor and employment law.

Mr. Mulé enjoys serving the community through organizations that are important to him.  He currently serves as a Trustee for the Desert Bar Association and sits on the Board of Directors of the Steinway Society of Riverside County.  He formerly served on the Board of Trustees for the Marywood-Palm Valley School in Rancho Mirage as well as on the Board of Directors for Food In Need of Distribution (FIND).

 

KAREN J. SLOAT

 

 

Karen J. Sloat joined FitzGerald & Mulé LLP in 2002. Ms. Sloat’s practice focuses on litigation between employers and employees, with disputes typically involving harassment, discrimination, breach of contract, defamation, wrongful termination or statutory violations. Ms. Sloat also conducts personnel investigations for the firm’s clients into allegations of workplace misconduct. In addition to employment matters, Ms. Sloat practices in real estate, construction law, finance/loan transactions, commercial litigation, business transactions and entity formation.

 

 

Ms. Sloat received her undergraduate degree from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia with a B.A. in Theatre Arts and obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles where she served as Editor of the Loyola Law Review.

 

Ms. Sloat is a member of the State Bars of California, Colorado, and Hawaii and is a trustee of the Desert Bar Association.  She is also a member United States District Courts for the Central and Southern Districts of California and serves on the Bench-Bar Coalition of the State Bar of California.

 

QUYNHVI (VEE) B. SOTELO

 

 

Ms. Sotelo has been with FitzGerald & Mulé LLP since 2003, and she has practiced employment law in California for five years.  Prior to that, she was a legal researcher throughout the United States and abroad for over eight years, focusing on a wide variety of national and international laws, including U.S. Bankruptcy Law, U.S. and California Ethics Regulations, Contracts, and Commercial Transactions.  She has represented private small businesses, national corporations and international businesses.

 

Ms. Sotelo received her undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where she also earned Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude distinctions.  Ms. Sotelo received her Juris Doctor degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Ms. Sotelo is a member of the State Bar of California and the Desert Bar Association.
